Pay & conditions

Unions are how working people negotiate for better pay and conditions with their employers.

This is how we make work better - fighting for better pay, conditions, benefits, hours, leave, job health and safety policies, ways to balance work and family, and more.

Collective bargaining is a way to solve workplace problems. It is also the best means for raising wages in Australia's manufacturing sector.

It's through collective bargaining that working people in unions have higher wages, better benefits and safer workplaces - but we're not done.

Every year, the Manufacturing Division helps thousands of workers negotiate or renegotiate their agreements - constantly working to make things better. However, some employers seek to cut costs and fight against existing agreements, to roll back many hard-won contract terms and conditions.
